Thanasis Deligiannis is a transdisciplinary artist, director and composer based in Amsterdam. His work merges sound, video, space and technology to create hybrid, performative experiences.
Born in Greece, Thanasis grew up in a family of folk musicians, dancers, and farmers, and moved to Amsterdam in 2007. His recent works include Xirómero/Dryland (Venice Art Biennale, 2024), which he co-conceived with Yannis Michalopoulos and developed with a team of artists for the Greek Pavilion, and Nightwater (Muziekgebouw, 2025), a large-scale performance-installation transforming the concert venue into a layered landscape of sound, image, and live performance. His practice spans collaborations with music ensembles, theatre companies, and cultural institutions across Europe, North America, and Asia.
He has been artist-in-residence at institutions such as Onassis Culture, Gaudeamus (supported by the Performing Arts Fund NL – Nieuwe Makers), the New York Foundation for the Arts, and Muziekgebouw Productiehuis in Amsterdam. He collaborated with the Tanztheater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch Company as part of Dimitris Papaioannou’s creative team, and was assistant to Heiner Goebbels at Manchester International Festival. He also served as artistic coordinator of the intercultural platform Atlas Lab and the music-theatre research project RE-FUSE, an initiative of the Greek National Opera in collaboration with Gaudeamus.
Since 2018, Thanasis has been teaching at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, part of the Amsterdam University of the Arts, while also leading workshops at educational institutions across the Netherlands and Europe. He is the artistic director of the Amsterdam-based company I/O, which focuses on creating crossover performances and immersive installations.
